If you are looking for what to do in Bath, this unique museum takes you on a journey through the history of America, from its early settlers to the 20th century; and illustrates the complexity of American culture through its remarkable collections of folk and decorative arts. Its furniture, paintings, maps, quilts, silver, and glass are presented in a series of authentic period rooms. The museum has the finest collection of Americana outside the United States.

In 2012 the museum is showcasing these special exhibitions:

The Compassionate Eye: Birds and Beasts from the American Museum’s Print Collection special exhibition 10 March - 1 July
On view in the Exhibition Gallery, displayed together for the first time, will be striking prints by legendary 20th century American artists depicting relationships between humans and their animal companions.

By Way of These Eyes: The Hyland Collection of American Photography special exhibition 14 July - 28 October
On view in the Exhibition Gallery, photographs from the renowned Christopher Hyland Collection will juxtapose iconic stateside images from the early 1900s with vibrant photographs of 21st century America.

John James Audubon: Fur and Feather
John James Audubon changed forever the way in which nature is illustrated. Twelve folio engravings by this great ornithologist, naturalist and painter will be on display within the Museum until 28 October.

Painted Rooms: American Historic Interiors by Michael John Hunt
Throughout the season a series of detailed architectural paintings of rooms in Henry Francis du Pont’s Winterthur will be hung alongside the American Museums’ Period Rooms that mirror those at the premier museum of American decorative arts located in Delaware, USA.

Christmas at Claverton 23 November - 16 December
Annual festive display - with a different theme each year - featuring unique handcrafted decorations.

The American Museum in Britain is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The hilltop site of the museum’s home, Claverton Manor near Bath takes full advantage of the spectacular views over the valley of the River Avon. The grounds total some 120 acres, of which 40 are open to visitors.

Main season opening 10th March to 28th October 2012, Tuesday to Sunday.
12:00 – 17:00. Closed Monday’s except during August and on Bank Holidays.
