New, second-hand and antiquarian bookshop overlooking Cromford Millpond, in Derbyshire’s Peak District.
Founded in 1974, we have grown to about thirteen rooms including Children’s Bookroom, Café and Foreign Languages Room. With about 100,000 books, a homely atmosphere and many unique exhibits and quirks, you can spend happy hours here. There are tree-trunk seats and tables for picnics on the Promenade opposite, and, when dry, café tables in the secret garden.
Scarthin Books purchase second-hand and antiquarian books from 50p to £1000+ in value, search for scarce books and supply schools. The café serves drinks, cakes, soups and vegetarian savouries. Discussion, Café Philosophique, Buddhist and Amnesty International groups meet here, and we hold book launches and an annual Apple Day.
Scarthin Books is often listed among the best bookshops in Britain – even in the World!
