There are gardens on a grand scale at Forde Abbey and Hestercombe, with fine views and space for walking and playing with your children or dog.   East Lambrook Manor Garden offers all the colour and spontaneity of the English cottage garden and at The Bishop’s Palace and Barrington Court you will find amazing architecture, atmosphere and ancient trees.  There is magic and romance at Lytes Cary, Cothay and Tintinhull with their garden “rooms” joined by secluded walkways.  Kilver Court and Cannington have fine features and formal planting to admire and Holt is one of very few organically certified ornamental gardens.
 

Some of the gardens are very close to each other - you could easily explore two or three in a day.  All offer tempting afternoon tea or coffee and cake and some have more extensive lunch menus.  And you can buy something grown in Somerset to take home with you, from the gardens’ nurseries.  Can you resist?
