2011 Oscar winner, Colin Firth, was the latest celebrity to be revealed today at Madame Tussauds London. The new wax figure of The King’s Speech star was ‘unwrapped’ under twinkling lights and surrounded by festive Christmas trees within the A-List Party area of the attraction.

The actor, renowned for his dashing demeanour, is captured in his red carpet finest of a black textured tuxedo complete with bow tie and pocket handkerchief.

“We are delighted to welcome Colin Firth to Madame Tussauds London” commented Liz Edwards, PR Manager at the attraction. “What better Christmas gift for our guests than this striking new figure of the globally adored actor? Colin is a one of the hottest leading men of our time, an Oscar winner and a true British gent – the ideal addition to the A-list of stars we already have here at the attraction."

Tyntesfield National Trust (Open Everyday except Christmas Day): Sunday 1st January to Monday 31st December 2012

For the first time ever Tyntesfield’s gardens & estate will be open every day of the year (except Christmas day).

You can now enjoy Tyntesfield’s glorious outdoors more often than ever before as this year the National Trust gardens, estate, shop and restaurant will be open every day of the year (except Christmas Day) for the first time.

Like many National Trust properties the main house needs a rest over winter to carry out conservation work and protect its precious interiors from wear and tear but the 500 acres of beautiful North Somerset countryside, gardens, parkland and woodland in which it sits, is open for all to enjoy, all year round.

Paul Evans, Tyntesfield’s Head Gardener says ‘On a crisp winter’s day the gardens can look every bit as beautiful as during the summer. Winter is also equally as busy for us gardeners so visitors will see lots of activity including efforts to keep produce growing for the restaurant in our walled kitchen garden.’

For those who love an invigorating winter walk four new 1-mile walks around Tyntesfield are downloadable from the website. For families a kids’ play trail map inspired by memories of children who used to live on the estate gives ideas for letting off steam or choose from one of the many events held all year round.

Get Fighting Fit in the forest this New Year.

Many of us struggle to keep our New Year’s resolutions, but Forestry Commission England is making it easier for you with a wide range of activities to help you get in shape.

Bedgebury National Pinetum & Forest in Kent offers many good value and fun opportunities to get fit regardless of age or ability, from cycling and Nordic Walking to a gentle stroll round the National Pinetum – the world’s best conifer collection.

Research has shown that woodlands can play a part in helping you become physically fit and also help relieve stress and improve mental wellbeing. With a Forestry Commission wood never more than half an hour away there’s no excuse for not going into the New Year looking and feeling great.

Why not try your hand at Nordic Walking? It’s a brilliant way to burn calories, as the specially designed poles exercise both your upper and lower body muscles - and it’s suitable for all ages and fitness levels. It’s also a fantastic way to get out and meet people. Louise Bastable, Bedgebury’s fitness coach, offers regular Nordic Walking sessions whether you’re a beginner or seasoned professional, why not give it a go in a beautiful forest setting?

If you prefer to be on two wheels, our forests have everything you need for a great day out cycling. From easy-going trails to the adrenaline rush of the mountain bike routes, cycling provides a great workout and can help to shape and tone muscles. Ollie Ireland, the Bedgebury Cycle Coach, runs a variety of popular cycle sessions.

Conservation work is another great way to stay healthy whilst also giving something back to your local woodland. Jo Pappenheim, Volunteer Co-ordinator for the Friends of Bedgebury, will be delighted to find a volunteering opportunity to fit your needs.
