Enjoy a great family day out and get up close and personal with the wonderful collection of Great Western Railway steam locomotives.
Families can follow the Archie Trail around the Centre’s 20 acres, learn how steam engines work in the Science, Learning & Railways Exhibition and experience war time in the Air Raid shelter. They have a recreation of Brunel’s Broad Gauge and the two replica Broad Gauge locomotives are on display.
A lovely picnic area by the Turntable where kids can play and families can watch trains go past, even when there are not any trains running. The Refreshment Rooms serve hot and cold food and snacks, including homemade cakes, and visitors can buy souvenirs in the Shop.
One price gets all – once you have paid your admission, there are no extra charges for any of the Centre’s attractions and when there are running the trains, visitors can enjoy unlimited train rides.
The Railway Centre is run by the Great Western Society – Charity No. 272616. We have around 4,000 members including over 250 active volunteers who help run the Centre.

We are open from 10.30am until 4pm on all Discovery Days and on Steam Days between January and September, and until 5pm on selected Steam Days between April and September.
Last admission is at 2.30pm on all days.
