Hillside Shire Horse Sanctuary

Sandy Ln, West Runton, Cromer NR27 9QH

Enjoy a day with our heavy horses and other rescued animals.

We are pleased to welcome visitors to Hillside Shire Horse Sanctuary in West Runton from Thursday 28th March until the end of October 2024.

Hillside was founded to help and campaign for animals in need, particularly those who suffer every day in the intensive factory farming industry.

In 1995, with just 20 acres of land, Hillside began rescuing animals. Since then the numbers have steadily grown and are now home to around 2000 rescued animals living on over 1000 acres, which includes Hillside Shire Horse Sanctuary at West Runton.

All the animals receive a good standard of basic care and the ability to save so many is attributable to the loyal help of the supporters, through whom they have been able to turn a vision into reality.

Hillside is now home to over 4000 animals and is one of the UK's most successful campaigning organisations for the animals' cause. We have always known that one of the main reasons animals are left to suffer in factory farms is because people have little or no idea about the immense cruelty involved in their food production. Although most of our rescued animals have been saved from the farming industry, Hillside is home to over 2500 horses, ponies, donkeys and mules.
