Eden Camp Modern History Musuem

Eden Camp Modern History Museum, Old Malton Malton, Ryedale, YO17 6RT

Eden Camp Modern History Museum is a unique, award-winning attraction set within the grounds of an original World War II Prisoner of War camp near Malton, North Yorkshire.

Built in 1942, the camp originally housed Italian prisoners of war, and today its authentic huts have been transformed into one of the most immersive history museums in the country.

The only remaining prisoner of war camp of its kind in Britain, Eden Camp welcomes more than 100,000 visitors each year and offers something for every age and interest. Spread across 22 of the original huts, the museum brings the realities of wartime Britain back to life through immersive displays and interactive exhibits, combining sights, sounds, and even smells to create a truly atmospheric experience.

Themes covered include the Blitz, the Home Front, the Home Guard, Evacuation, the Battle of Britain, and VE & VJ Day, alongside world conflicts and the role of British military forces since 1945. The site also houses an impressive collection of military vehicles, artillery, and aircraft displayed outdoors in the Heritage Hall area.

On-site facilities include the WinStan’s Bunker Café, the Officers’ Mess Tearoom, a Garrison Cinema Bar, a gift shop, and a Junior Assault Course and play area for younger visitors. Free on-site parking is available and the museum is dog friendly, making it an easy and accessible day out for families, school groups, and history enthusiasts alike.

Eden Camp is located at the junction of the A64 and A169, just outside Malton, and is within easy reach of York, Scarborough, and the North York Moors.
