Elizabethan House Museum

Elizabethan House, South Quay Great Yarmouth, NR30 2QH

Experience the lives of those who lived in this splendid quayside house, from Tudor times to the Victorian era.

Built around 1596 by merchant Benjamin Cowper, this charming quayside house has been home to wealthy families and prominent Great Yarmouth figures through the centuries. Its rich history is reflected in an extensive collection of antique furniture and impressive artworks.

Step into the Conspiracy Room and uncover the house’s links to Oliver Cromwell and the Parliamentarians – was the death of Charles I plotted here?

Get hands-on with the Elizabethan past, dress your family in replica Tudor costumes, and explore the Victorian kitchen and scullery to experience ‘upstairs downstairs’ life, complete with cutting-edge household technology of the time.

Elizabethan House Museum is a National Trust property managed by Norfolk Museums, offering free admission to both Norfolk Museums Pass and National Trust members.

With its immersive, hands-on experiences, Elizabethan House Museum is a must-visit for all ages exploring Great Yarmouth.
