Set amongst beautiful ‘Darling Buds of May’ countryside of oast houses and picturesque villages, it has a host of beautiful gardens, historic houses, National Trust properties, steam railways, award-winning vineyards and unique attractions just waiting to be discovered.
There’s also lots on offer for those who enjoy the great outdoors such as walking, cycling, fishing and golf. Food lovers will enjoy the many excellent places to eat and drink, with plenty of delicious Kentish produce on the menu. Charming village pubs abound and the village of Biddenden is home to Graham Garrett’s Michelin-star restaurant, The West House. And Chapel Down Winery near Tenterden is home to The Swan at Chapel Down.
Ashford is where the traditional market town meets the vibrancy of a modern international gateway and the old and new sit easily alongside each other. Shop ‘til you drop at the Ashford Designer Outlet with around 80 stores and more to come as the centre is undergoing a major expansion to introduce a further 50 luxury brands. You can also catch the High Speed train which gets you to London in just 38 minutes. Or hop on a Eurostar train and you can be in Paris, Brussels or Lille in around two hours.
Godinton House & Gardens is a delightful Jacobean house set in 12 acres of beautiful gardens and surrounding parkland and Hole Park offers over 15 acres of delightful gardens within parkland.
Tenterden is known as the ‘Jewel of the Weald’ and is the quintessential English country town. With independent stores and antique shops alongside well know brands, the tree-lined high street offers a relaxed shopping experience. There are also plenty of cafes, restaurants and pubs that offer alfresco dining when you need a break. The Kent & East Sussex Railway is situated in the heart of Tenterden, take a leisurely steam train journey through the countryside as far as Bodiam with its National Trust castle.
There’s plenty to do for families too, visit the Rare Breeds Centre at Woodchurch and make friends with the friendly farm animals. And go on safari at Port Lympne Reserve where you can spot rhinos, gorillas, tigers, giraffes and many more. You can even stay overnight in a lodge and wake up to the sounds of the big cats roaring! The Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway, Kent’s world-famous miniature steam train is situated nearby and meanders through over 13 miles of the Romney Marsh.
