Ramsgate Tunnels

Marina Esplanade Ramsgate, CT11 8FH

A memorable adventure for the whole family!

Take a guided tour of the UK’s largest network of civilian wartime tunnels and discover how the population of Ramsgate lived during the dark days of the Second World War.

We offer Deep Tunnel Shelter Explorer Tours 7 days a week and Tunnel Town Explorer Tours at peak times subject to availability.

Other special tours and events are held throughout the year – see our website for details.

Your Explorer Tour starts with a short film in the 150 year old Victorian Railway Tunnel before heading off to see our purpose built Air Raid Precaution tunnels.

Stories of the tunnels abound; you will hear about Ramsgate Borough Council's ambitious plans to create the network of deep shelter tunnels where thousands took shelter and how part of the system evolved into an underground town known as Tunnel Town with over 1,000 permanent residents calling it home.
